I can't think of a better use for our 100th post, than to ask you to join us here at ArnoldNYC.

There's a time in everyone's life, when you are finally asked to come sit at the Adult's table. That time is now for a few of us. With the new move finally happening, it opens the Kids Room wide open – eager to fill with bright new creative talent looking to make amazing work and think up insane ideas. Is that creative you?

Arnold NYC and the super fun KidsRoom is looking for new talent hoping to make a splash in advertising. From Hershey's to Topps, Alberto Culver to Mike's Hard Lemonade, Lee Jeans, Cotes Du Rhone, Boiron, Starbucks Ice Cream and many more – needles to say, there's a ton to do.

Summer Studies

Every summer we find ourselves asking, what's a great place to sit outside and have lunch or where can I find a drink outdoors after work? Is Mr Softee more likely on 16th or 17th? Where is a great iced coffee other than Starbucks? With Summer just around the corner (June 21st), wouldn't it be great to know all these questions? We think so.

Over the next month or so, we'll research our area (about a 5 minute walking radius around Arnold NYC) 23rd to 10th Street, 7th to 3rd Avenue with what interests us. Then we'll take our findings and make them accessible to us all. These will be our Summer Studies.

"Nicholas Felton spends much of his time thinking about data, charts and our daily routines. He is the author of several Personal Annual Reports that collate countless measurements into a rich assortment of graphs and maps reflecting the year’s activities."

He also introduced me to Amazon's Mechanical Turk: "Amazon Mechanical Turk is based on the idea that there are still many things that human beings can do much more effectively than computers, such as identifying objects in a photo or video, performing data de-duplication, transcribing audio recordings, or researching data details. Traditionally, tasks like this have been accomplished by hiring a large temporary workforce (which is time consuming, expensive, and difficult to scale) or have gone undone."

They said a great quote, which I would like to repeat, "For every accountant you hire, hire an artist." A couple of their fun projects: The Liquor Store, and Blind Gift Wrapping. And they get their books printed by Lulu.

Tina Roth Eisenberg (Creative Blogger)
Teux Deux "TeuxDeux is a simple, designy, browser-based to-do app and the first collaboration between studio-mates swissmiss and Fictive Kin." Tina (Swiss Miss) also started a weekly creative session called Creative Mornings, which hosts different speakers from all areas of practice.

Erik Proulx (Writer & Producer)
Erik, once a fellow Arnolder...Arnoldnite...Arny – whatever we may call ourselves here went on to create a smart, funny and eye opening film called, Lemonade. "It's not a pink slip. It's a blank page."

John Dimatos (Researcher)
While at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program, John worked with fellow students and colleagues to develop items like the Water Canary, and the Rapid FTR with the help of like-minded companies like Thought Works. "ThoughtWorks is not your typical company. Talented, driven and principled people who are passionate about software, brought together because they want to do something amazing."

Zach Lieberman (Artist & Developer)
DIWO=Do It With Others was Zach's key focus during his 15 minutes of fame followed by the loudest applause of the day. His work, care and intelligence kind of gives you that tingling feeling. Here's a bunch of links from his talk...Drawn, Eye Writer, IQ Font, OpenFrameworks, and YesYesNo. All awesome and jaw dropping, or as Lieberman called it, "the open-mouth moment (the pathway to someone's heart)."

Steven Grasse (Creative Director & Entrepreneur)
Steven has creative some of the coolest brands like, Hendrick's Gin, and Sailor Jerry while running his shop Quaker City Mercantile. He has now gone and bought a farm, a store and what seems like nearly half a town in NH to continue to grow his brands like Root, while bringing a Transcendentalism revival to the community and perhaps further. Oh, and Art in the Age, too.

17 Frost presents NEO CON NEW YORK, an exhibition of collaborative installations by the Neo-Con collective [Aakash Nihalani, Ellis G., Poster Boy]. The collective consists of artists that utilize ephemeral mediums to create public art, focusing on neo-contextualizing the mundane. Yesterday, Ad Age published an article claiming what they felt were the top songs used in an ad this year. Somewhat surprising (not because of the musical talent, but for the lack of any media push), our spot for Timex iControl using the Liars, "clear island" was rated amongst the top five.

Montréal

This past weekend, I took a trip up to Montréal to see the sites, speak a very little French, and indulge in some Montreal cuisine. The weekend was filled with poutine, some smoke meats, and a lot of foie gras with a little design on the side. Some spots to check out if you're ever in Montreal:

We originally found Le Club Chasse et Peche by it's unique sign above it's entrance. A fair mix of wild game, maple leaves and a fleurdelisé painted in white on a black plaque really made the place stand out located on the quiet cobble stone street of St. Claude. The food was pretty decent, and the portions are fair. But the interior decor and overall vibe was worth the visit if only for a drink.

Au Pied de Cochon - "The Pig's Foot" was awesome. It was recommended prior to the trip north, and I highly recommend it to anyone reading. A fine mixture of meats and seafood, you can find yourself very happy and very filled at the end of your meal. The service was stellar as well. As each patron dropped their butter knife to the floor (because of how it was wrapped in the napkin), there was someone waiting to hand you another. Also, there was a great piece of art with a pig hanging above the kitchen that sparked a laugh.

Lastly, Mechant Boeuf. Located in Old Montreal this place is known for the "best burger in montreal". This was another shop that prompted a menu read due to their logo. An "angry" bull's head blowing off a little steam in the shape of a fleurdelisé. Clever. We didn't make in since we ran out of nights to eat, but I will be sure to stop in the next time visiting.

Not food, but cool none the less. Surface Jalouse is a gallery collection and store that prints onto just about anything but specializes in furniture. You bring in the object and an idea, and they'll work with you to make a unique piece for your collection.

The other day, Zoe and I took a walk through Chealsea looking at galleries and some street art when we passed a black shipping container underneath the high line. Immediately, LOT-EK popped into mind, but quickly realised it was a temporary sales unit for the new luxury building HL23. The building, or the future building looks like it will be quite stunning with floor to ceiling high windows and tons of space. So if you have around $5,000,000+ and not sure what to do with it... Take a look at the HL23 website, as it's very different from other building websites I've come across.

HITLabNZ: Mobile Advert

While cruising across NotCot today, I found a posting about a new type of media that brings together print ads and mobile phones interactively. It's pretty amazing, and really shows you where advertising could be heading with how much the industry is already pushing for online capabilities and user interactivity. Looks like SAATCHI & SAATCHI along with HIT Lab New Zealand are well on their way.

The code HIT Lab NZ uses, reminds me a lot of a Data Matrix code, which seems to have a lot of popularity outside of the United States. I tried installing the proper software into my cell phone to recognize the code I created using Kaywa, but sadly, I wasn't supported. Maybe one day we'll all be able to play.

I've been wanting to blog about this other blog for a while now-- BibliOdyssey. It's an amazing resource of images and other crazy things all found on the web, and they've recently put out a book as well. They do a good job citing their sources, and have amazingly random and beautiful things all the time. Be prepared to get lost though--navigation can get a little tricky. But it's definitely worth it!

All together now, Happy Birthday Brooklyn Bridge!

This Memorial Day weekend, Brooklyn and Manhattan will celebrate the Bridge’s 125th anniversary with a host of events honoring the structure’s historic and cultural significance. It should be a pretty fun time this long weekend. One particular art event that I'm going to want to check out is the Telectroscope.

The Telectroscope: A Window Through the World: Discover the long-forgotten transatlantic tunnel between London and Brooklyn with the Telectroscope. Artist Paul St. George’s public media project is an amazing optical device that allows viewers in Brooklyn to see all the way to London. Through June 15. Free. Again I'm a little school girl and already looking for an alternatives to the iphone, Anthing left open in my book is a winner Google starts with a contest to develop software for the phone with emulator for testing you software before it even comes out!, I mean this should be dope... (well if you don't mind missing out that seductive touch screen)

The Android Phone is in production but this is a link to there SDK kit and a preview of other possilbe uses for it. its going to be a cell with a ton of other options. It will be on T-moblie so this should be there ticket backinto the game the def have been quite behind but if this works out the will probly leave everyone elese in the dust so E-trade it up yall!

I stumbled upon FontStruct as I was passing through Why Me?, another blog devoted to design and advertising. "FontStruct is a free font-building tool brought to you by the world’s leading retailer of digital type, FontShop. FontStruct lets you quickly and easily create fonts constructed out of geometrical shapes, which are arranged in a grid pattern, like tiles or bricks." I haven't yet played with the system, but am looking forward to.

After a few days of stir-crazy Direct TV watching I stumbled upon the OVATION channel, that definity needs some better programming or maybe more programming? (is the better way to put it) All they have it now alot of looping shows on what the text book consider art and not that I have any ideas as of right now, but it would be awesome to write a show and maybe make a pilot for young art in NY? or something like that what do you guys think? any one interested?

If you like the earlier SIMS off shoots like SIM earth, SIM ants, SIM species?, SIM city, or the new standard SIMS your gonna freak out, take all those games combine them to one and make it a multiplayer online community, and you will have the craziest funniest game soon to-be out there.

oh and it will put creationist in there place cuz you know its science. (well I'll speak for myself)...
not only awesome in that way its also probably gong to be one the first few iphone games with the new SDK kit!!!
(no worries its not just a mobile game it will be mac and pc based as well.)

Oh and if thats not enough SIMs 3 is in develoment too!! yeah... for video games that make us forget we have a real life, then spend time making cyber friends with ai...kinda sad on my part...

They've recently come out with two new spots - one based on the popular 1983 video game, Spy Hunter as well as an homage to the Hot Wheels looping racetrack. is a mission of huge proportion and it should be a bad ass skate park. The park is going to cost 6 Million dollars, they have about half? The whole project is a great mission, that should keep to spirit of the sport alive, and I'm just helping them spread the word about it. Check the site out anything I could say will do no justice to there sites. Donate and help fund the Park!!!

Plus the design and execution of the campaign is just fanominal,
on top of the civil design of the park itself.

I wish they could redesign the park on the upper westside of NYC maybe even a section in Gand Central ha ha ha.

Okay I know there a small percentage of designers playing in the world of OOP Object-oreinted pattern programming or just plain old computer art, and I know I've always wanted to learn OOP codeing like Java ,but this just makes me drool... watch below.

so once you've been wow'ed and remind yourself we havent ben replaced by robots...yet, it does mean we need to start considering a programmer as a designers best friend, or give up learning French, Japanese, or Russian and start learning code.

So the video that just blew you away is a plugin for Adobe Illustrator called scriptographer is allows code to generate art based on advance math and some decently heavy code but scriptographer is still opensource and if your intrested in checking it out I would before its gone or costs an arm and a leg. alot of these same techniques are being used in Flash (Joshua Davis), After Effects (psyop does it), robotic / new media art, and some graffiti although you could probably call that new media too...

more on this stuff latter.. to much to go into...

After a hard days work of concepting and boarding your tummy will be full of inspiration. This is an interesting find even compared to my recent find of vosges chocolate and bacon exotic bar. I'm just wondering how good the cake tastes if you have work all day before you get to eat it...

Chocolate-pencils is a collaboration with patissier Tsujiguchi Hironobu, the mastermind behind popular dessert shops like Mont St. Claire and Le Chocolat de H (these guys are genius). A whole nother level of product design and culinary arts, the plate and pencils where design as a perfect compliment, good taste in design (no pun intended).

I saw this after just a few second of cruzing my normal design news on PROTEIN® OS which is also a very cool source for inspiration / trend following from rest of the world.

The exhibit up at MoMA now. It's an amazingly interesting show--things that are humorous, challenging, and just plain cute; I mean smart. Check it out, it's up through May 12. The online exhibit's pretty great, too.

In the past few decades, individuals have experienced dramatic changes in some of the most established dimensions of human life: time, space, matter, and individuality. Working across several time zones, traveling with relative ease between satellite maps and nanoscale images, gleefully drowning in information, acting fast in order to preserve some slow downtime, people cope daily with dozens of changes in scale. Minds adapt and acquire enough elasticity to be able to synthesize such abundance. One of design's most fundamental tasks is to stand between revolutions and life, and to help people deal with change. Designers have coped with these displacements by contributing thoughtful concepts that can provide guidance and ease as science and technology evolve. For all the electronic music lovers that don't DJ or make mix tapes anymore but always wish they did, this is your next music gadget. if neither or both of these apply (does that make sence?) its a great way to listen to music, learn to DJ, or even play with the notion of learning to listen to music like a DJ.

I'm going to use my iphone / ipod as my movie player and my music is going to be managed buy this monster (well mini monster 120GB). I'm 4715th in line to get mine when they release in the US.

so the only other alternative which I think others maybe instrested in is Djay for itunes which will let you do almost all the same things as the above but on a laptop not in the palm of your hands.

I found this in this months Computer Art Magazine its really a good magazine (but there new design rocks... or well.. takes a bit of inspiration from IDN from ginko press) but never the less. you have to check out this sit and download the PDF print them onto you own handy dandy sticker paper, take the time to cut them out, and you know play vigilante and deface all and every forms of design. (yours included... even mine.)

from conversations with really creative engineers and programmers to entertainment writers and absolute newbies with great simple ideas that can change the world, and sometimes politicians "Al gore" for one...but its great they talk about art, science and how to make everything better.
